News of Folk by Sylvia

Our fund-raising for the roof is going well but still has a long way to go. However we are having wonderful donations from folk, St Michael's being one. They are also having the Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir on Sat August 21st and are giving some of the proceeds to us, so we shall be pleased if you could support this. The choir are excellent and we are grateful to St. Michael's.

Also I have heard from Christine Walker who sent a donation in memory of her father Rev. Geoffrey Walker who was our minister on two occasions and a great influence on many Beer folk in their Christian faith. Christine sends greetings and love to all those who remember her.

Sybil (who has spent many hours in church seeing visitors around and also adding to our funds) dropped a blackboard on her foot!! She really made a good job of it and her foot has been very black and swollen. She goes on holiday now, so we hope she will rest up a little and come OK again.
Jim Chapple went into hospital for a short while but is now feeling so much better.

Nova Richards is also feeling much better and it's good to see her out and about again
Les Andrews had had another operation and is improving daily--we wish him well.
Doreen Snell has had a spell in hospital. She is now home and is going to need some help which her family are sorting for her.
Tony Bewick has had his first treatment and is looking well. The hospital are very pleased with his progress. He goes in again for further treatment.

Jenny Franklin has had nasty tummy trouble, she was in hospital awaiting tests and had a slight heart attack. She is now waiting again to go into hospital for further investigation.
Roger (Aplin) also is having to go to hospital, he has a stomach complaint and has a scan booked in for 2nd August.
Ken Paynter (Audrey Tim's brother) was taken very poorly with a heart attack. Ken was the coastguard in charge of the Beer Group and so is well-known. He is thankfully on the road to recovery.

We were sorry to hear that Arthur Newton had died. The funeral was held in our church and was well-attended. We thank Stephanie who played the organ so well, and we send sympathy and love to Rae and family.
It was also a shock to hear of Mary Good's passing. We do send our sympathy to Roy.
I have just heard from David Ayres that his Mum, Peggy, has died. She used to live in Marine Villas, then in Colebrooke House and latterly in Netherhayes. Peggy was 90 years old. Cyn

Oh, there's sunshine,
blessed sunshine,
While the peaceful,
happy moments roll,
When Jesus shows
His smiling face,
There is sunshine
in my soul.

The Ladies Friendship and Fellowship group had their July meeting in the garden of Mr and Mrs Ernest Stock in Seaton. Their next meeting is in September

I'd love to know what gardening secrets Ernest was telling Barbara.
Any suggestions……….?
